Stonemason's First Funding Round: Building a Software & App Studio for the AI Era

July 19, 2026

I have always been interested in building multiple products and businesses rather than being limited to a single company or a single market for decades.

The idea of creating a platform where I could build, operate, and eventually acquire software businesses across different categories has always been interesting to me. However, until recently, doing this efficiently at scale was extremely difficult.

The recent breakthroughs in AI changed that.

AI is fundamentally changing the economics of building and operating software companies. Teams can now move faster, automate more processes, and build products with a level of efficiency that was not possible just a few years ago.

That made one thing clear: this is the right moment to build a portfolio of software businesses.

That idea is what led me to start Stonemason.

Stonemason is a software & app studio focused on building, acquiring, and improving software businesses. Our goal is to create a portfolio of companies across different categories, improving them through better products, technology, and operations while owning them for the long term.

Building a portfolio of software businesses requires more than simply launching products. It requires having systems that can be repeated, improved, and produce predictable outcomes over time.

When you stop optimizing for short-term results and start thinking in longer time horizons, you can make fundamentally different decisions. You can invest more into products, infrastructure, and teams while still moving with the speed of an AI-native company.

This is the approach behind Stonemason.

I’m proud to share that Stonemason recently completed its pre-seed funding round with a group of angel investors. The funding will support our first acquisitions, development of new AI software products, and expansion of the team.

Our current portfolio includes Regulara (regulara.io), a compliance automation platform serving EU financial institutions, along with additional AI software products currently in development.

We are just getting started. I’m excited about the products we are building, the acquisitions we are exploring, and the long-term opportunity ahead.

There is a lot of work to do, but we believe the opportunity to build a new type of software & app studio has never been stronger.
